March Madness is coming to the nation’s capital. This year, Washington, D.C. will host the East Regional of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament at the iconic Capital One Arena, bringing some of the most intense and high-stakes college basketball games right to local fans’ doorstep.

The East Regional games are scheduled for Friday, March 27, and Sunday, March 29, featuring the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight match-ups. These games will determine which team from the East advances to the Final Four in Indianapolis, where the national championship will be decided. Tip-off times and specific matchups will be announced after Selection Sunday on March 15, when the full 68-team bracket is revealed.

For D.C. sports fans, this is a rare chance to experience the excitement of March Madness in
person. The arena will host two Sweet 16 games on Friday, followed by the East Regional final
on Sunday. Each game is a do-or-die matchup, guaranteeing edge-of-your-seat action as teams compete for a shot at the national title.

Local businesses, bars, and restaurants are also preparing for the influx of fans. Many are planning viewing parties for early-round games and live updates from Capital One Arena. In addition, local colleges and youth basketball leagues are organizing brackets and competitions to get students and kids involved in the nationwide frenzy.

For many, March Madness is more than basketball — it’s a cultural phenomenon. From
“Cinderella stories” where underdogs topple top-seeded teams, to buzzer-beaters that become instant legends, every game is packed with drama, tension, and excitement.

Tickets for the East Regional are limited and expected to sell quickly once matchups are announced. Fans planning to attend are encouraged to secure their seats early and prepare for one of the most thrilling weekends in college sports.
